WWB 2.0

The events of 2006 had deep repercussions throughout the LGBT sports world, affecting WWB as much as anybody.

The Montreal World Outgames, founded to compete with the Gay Games, foundered in its registration drive and ended up losing more than $4 million; its wrestling tournament drew barely two dozen wrestlers and featured only a handful of bouts. In contrast, Chicago Games worked for the year after the Gay Games ended to finish flush.

The FGG underwent a three-year change of its membership structure, with member organizations such as WWB surrendering board rights and burdens to concentrate on their own missions and branding. Simultaneously, WWB revised its bylaws and broadened its mission.

Currently WWB is working to find ways for the clubs to support each other in every way possible. Clubs have long benefited from the visits of coaches from other clubs to share techniques. In 2009, several clubs joined Golden Gate to staff a concession booth at the Folsom Street Fair, splitting the proceeds. The experiment proved so successful that the Don Jung Memorial Tournament was moved to September to be on the Saturday of the fair. In addition, WWB is working with USA Wrestling and other organizations to find the best ways to build more inclusive and sustainable inclusive community-based recreational wrestling programs.
